Elite Alpaca Breeding Services (EABS) is a breeding system comprising several distinct and complementary sections designed to deliver a superior breeding program to breeders with specific breeding goals in place.
EABS is designed to deliver measurable results for specific objectives in alpaca breeding programs.
It is not a short-term fix option but is more pertinent to achieving longer term goals for breeders who aim to be producers of superior quality animals and fleeces.
EABS offers breeders a system by which they design and manage their own breeding program through either general education or more specific one-on-one consulting services.
In essence, EABS is predicated around the Soft Rolling Skin (SRS®) breeding principles developed and promoted by Dr Jim Watts in Australia. SRS® promotes soft bundling locks of fine, closely aligned and long fibre based on selection of animals through objective measurement and visual markers of important fibre characteristics.
EABS is designed to meet individual needs and wants, and is particularly aimed at improving coloured alpacas to produce elite fibre in the future - in essence, to produce elite animals producing elite fibre.
The EABS program has been designed to suit the American and Canadian alpaca industries by industry consultant, educator and publisher, Ian Watt, through Alpaca Consulting Services USA.

The EABS program is not for everyone.
EABS is a departure from traditional breeding philosophies and practices and stands alone as an exciting option for progressive breeders.
EABS, in its totality, covers everything from the soil in which the pasture grows to the skirted fleece after shearing. It treats the production of either animal or fleece as a value adding exercise where anything, and everything, that goes into producing the final product is assessed, evaluated and managed to advantage.
It looks at all production inputs critically and yet is sympathetic to individual environments and circumstance.
It is a tailor-made production and breeding system.
While it is an holistic approach to production, it is flexible enough to be used in part, by individual item or in sections - the final makeup of the individual program is up to the breeder or grower.
